ICICIDIRECT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I recently got the following targeted offer from ICICIdirect, India\u2019s largest e-brokerage:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4995\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4995\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gtm360.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/ICICIDIRECT-TARGETED-OFFER-01.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4995\" src=\"http:\/\/gtm360.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/ICICIDIRECT-TARGETED-OFFER-01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"390\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gtm360.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/ICICIDIRECT-TARGETED-OFFER-01.jpg 596w, https:\/\/gtm360.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/ICICIDIRECT-TARGETED-OFFER-01-200x156.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4995\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">ICICIdirect Targeted Offer<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It\u2019s not easy to estimate the value of brokerage since it&#8217;s reported only after a trade is executed. So, I won\u2019t be surprised if this targeted offer has a low conversion rate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#2. STAR BAZAAR<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This targeted offer was made by the leading retailer <em><strong>Star Bazaar<\/strong><\/em>, a joint venture of Tata Group of India and Tesco of UK.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4996\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4996\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gtm360.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/STAR-BAZAAR-TARGETED-OFFER-01.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4996\" src=\"http:\/\/gtm360.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/STAR-BAZAAR-TARGETED-OFFER-01.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"495\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gtm360.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/STAR-BAZAAR-TARGETED-OFFER-01.png 483w, https:\/\/gtm360.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/STAR-BAZAAR-TARGETED-OFFER-01-100x100.png 100w, https:\/\/gtm360.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/STAR-BAZAAR-TARGETED-OFFER-01-200x198.png 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4996\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Star Bazaar Targeted Offer<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This targeted offer is unappealing for more reasons than one:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For most consumers, an INR 50 income against an INR 1443 expense would sound like a raw deal<\/li>\n<li>Of the remaining consumers, not sure how many would be motivated by a paltry INR 50 gift to take the trouble of keeping a running tally of their shopping to know if they\u2019ve crossed this odd figure of INR 1443.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Again, I won&#8217;t be surprised if this targeted offer converted poorly.<\/p>\n<p>The easiest way to boost the appeal of this targeted offer is to\u00a0increase the value of the gift manifold (after, of course, rounding off the spend amount to a sensible figure like INR 1500).<\/p>\n<p>But I&#8217;m sure that would not be possible in retail.<\/p>\n<p>If I were to talk to Star Bazaar&#8217;s CMO, I can imagine that they&#8217;d balk at my suggestion:\u00a0&#8220;As a retailer, our margins are wafer thin. We can&#8217;t give away more than INR 50&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Fair point.<\/p>\n<hr style=\"width: 70%;\" \/>\n<p>To break this stalemate, brand managers need to be able to raise the monetary appeal of their targeted offers substantially without raising the value of gifts by much.<\/p>\n<p>There are three ways by which they can accomplish that goal:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/gtm360.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/eatigo-uber-targeted-offer.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-5004\" src=\"http:\/\/gtm360.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/eatigo-uber-targeted-offer.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"125\" height=\"142\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gtm360.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/eatigo-uber-targeted-offer.jpg 708w, https:\/\/gtm360.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/eatigo-uber-targeted-offer-176x200.jpg 176w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 125px) 100vw, 125px\" \/><\/a>Switch the gift from a giveaway to a sweepstake. The higher value of the prize will bolster the targeted offer&#8217;s appeal manifold. The discount restaurant reservation app Eatigo recently did a joint campaign with Uber. The gift was a chance to win a Dinner for Two at a 5 star hotel in return for taking two Uber Premier rides.<\/li>\n<li>Use leverage to increased the gift\u2019s perceived value. Government programs in India use this principle very effectively, using insurance as the lever e.g. <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pradhan_Mantri_Suraksha_Bima_Yojana\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana<\/em><\/a>, where a premium of INR 12 (18\u00a2 US) provides enrolled citizens an accident insurance coverage of\u00a0 INR 2 lakh (US$3,000). As you can see, a\u00a0small gift value can be used as premium to buy a large insurance policy.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/gtm360.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/crypto-currency-01-fi.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-5000 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/gtm360.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/crypto-currency-01-fi-200x89.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"89\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gtm360.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/crypto-currency-01-fi-200x89.jpg 200w, https:\/\/gtm360.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/crypto-currency-01-fi.jpg 630w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>Pay out the gift in the form of cryptocoins. Consumers tend to perceive cryptocurrencies as potential multibaggers. The Japanese retailer Rakuten recently moved its US$ 9 billion loyalty program to an alt-coin called <strong>Rakuten Coin<\/strong>.
